First off I want to thank you for taking the time to check out this blog. My wife, Jessica, told me about a year ago that I should start writing and telling other people some of the insights I have been learning since I started studying God’s Word. So finally I did what any sound minded husband should do, and that was to listen to his wife.
A little background on me, I grew up in a small Southern Baptist church where my grandfather, who is still preaching today in his 80’s, was the preacher. As a child I was at church pretty much every time the doors opened but as with most children I spent more time in “la-la” land than paying attention to what was being taught. I got saved and baptized at an early age, because I knew that I wanted to go to Heaven and not hell, but that was a far as I got. The sad truth about that form of Christianity is, in my opinion, one of the biggest epidemics in the body of Christ (the Church) today. I sat in Church every week and would feel good after I left but never took the time to make the message personal to me, by reading and growing in my relationship with Jesus.
At an early age I felt a calling that I was supposed be in the ministry field and really do something to expand God’s kingdom (as Christians are called to do) but I let the world influence me and didn’t take the calling seriously. I thank God daily that He did not give up on me when there were plenty of chance when He could have. Back in November of 2013 I had a business partner recommend a few Bible teaching series that he said really helped him to start digging deeper into God’s Word. Needless to say I started listening and really reading and studying for myself and things in my life really started to change for the better. Now, as just one part of what I feel God leading me to do, I have decided to share a little from my perspective. I pray that you get as much out of this as I do when writing it.
Before I go any further I have to thank a few people who helped set the foundations for me to do what I do today. First off I have to thank my Mother, Kay Justus, and my Grandparents Dan and Marie Blackwell for being steadfast through much opposition and giving me an example of how to seek God when situations arose in my life. I have to give the biggest Thank you to my amazing wife, Jessica, for sticking with me through all of my hard headed moments and for pushing me to grow in every area of my life, I Love You.
Like I mentioned above I hope this will help you in your walk with Jesus and I pray that His Word comes alive to you as it has for me. Thanks again for visiting.
Disclaimer: The basis of my beliefs is that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. By that I mean that I believe the entire Bible, not just part of it, or the parts that make for “good religion”. My intent is and will always be to just share some of what I have learned in my studies.
2 Corinthians 5-6 (NLT) It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death: but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.
